Will & Walker's Day 2010

As is our annual tradition, the day before school starts Will & Walker get to choose what we do for the day.  This year they decided (with a suggestion from Mommy) we should go to the Kentucky Horse Park.  Of course they had to take their cowboy hates and got I got tons of compliments on what cute cowboys I had with me.  We were so glad Daddy had the day off also and got to join us.  Will told me at the end of the day that this was the best Will &Walker day ever, and he wanted to come back next year.

We stopped for breakfast at Bread of Life and we had an unexpected visitor...we think the guy sitting at the table to the right is Santa Claus.  Will pointed out his beard was too short to be Santa Claus but we decided since it was summer he may trim it shorter.  Who knows?  I'm sure whoever he was he was wondering why Will kept starring at him.
Walker going on a pony ride.
Will riding Popeye.  Isn't his fly mask just hilarious!?!
Checking out one of the horses in the "Parade of Breeds" Barn.
Will & Walker sitting in one of the two "giant chairs" built in 1978, used with a giant table for horse jumping competitions.
I have to admit I had as much fun as Will & Walker did.  We ended our day by going to Will's Open House.  I'm trying not to even think about school starting.  How is it that he is already starting kindergarden? A funny story about Walker.  While walking, Shannon told Walker to hold his hand.  he replied, "Cowboys don't hold hands."  Tomorrow is his first day at the Little Learning Center.  I hope he loves it as much as Will did.

One more look at the Santa picture...what do you think?  (Actually I somehow got this picture on here and can't get it off)

Finger Painting

Painting before bedtime.
Walker doesn't like basically anything on his hands so fingerpainting was out for him.  He used a paintbrush instead.

Walker's creation

Will's picture of the beach

I have a plan for this one in the playroom...now if I could just get Walker to make one.
This is my FAVorite!  Will fingerpainted the stripes and then used his thumbprint for the "stars".  I think I might just have to frame this one.

Myrtle Beach

I had a hard time choosing some of my favorite beach pictures, so there are a lot.  Hope you enjoy!

Vacation - Part 1

We just got back from vacation and I got to thinking about phrases that I kept hearing (or saying) over and over  so I decided to make a list...  Here are the top four.
1.  "SLOW DOWN"  Obviously this phrase came out of my mouth ALOT!  Shannon tends to drive over the speed limit and/or what I think is too close to the cars in front of us.  With a little help from TomTom I can see exactly how fast we are going and inform him of how much he is going over the speed limit.  He really scares me when we are passing a semi and those concrete barriers are on the other side.  I think a break on the passenger side (just like they used to have in driver's ed) would be very useful.
2.  "STOP!"  See phrase #1.
3.  "How much longer?"  This is Will's interpretation of Are we there yet?  A 5-year old has no concept of 8 more hours; so inbetween, during, and after watching Karate Kid (the original) for what seems like 50 times we heard this question.
4.  "Get the map."  Shannon has some trust issues with TomTom.  Not sure why he asked me to even bother opening the map because I despise them.  I know I have a social studies emphasis, but geography is NOT my thing.  I think it's a girl thing but I like TomTom, he usually gets me close enough to my destination.  Girls tend to like landmark directions, while boys like road numbers.  Oh well!

We had a great vacation!  Actually Shannon is a great driver (don't tell him I said that).  Pictures coming soon!

July 4th

Happy Birthday America!
Today we also get to celebrate two other very special birthdays.  Both of Shannon's grandmothers celebrate a birthday on the 4th of July.
Happy Birthday MaMa Holmes!
Happy 89th Birthday Granny Stephens!

Celebrating with Fireworks!

Will has strep throat so we didn't get to go to Thunder over Wilsontown (a huge annual 4th display at Julie's house).  Instead the boys sat on the front porch and watched the neighbors fireworks.
Then we loaded the boys up (in their jammies) and watched the Lakefest firework display from a parking lot.  They were tired, but got to celebrate.
We saw some great fireworks.  Can't wait for tonights display.
